Torren Whisson is a painter, sculptor and textile-based artist based in Western Australia. Her artistic practice is informed through her disabled identity, her studies in conservation biology, and her curiosity surrounding trauma. Through experiences of chronic illness, Whisson borrows narratives witnessed in nature and through her body, to encapsulate personal experiences in hospitals and convalescence. She is interested in uncovering what pain looks like, where it is located in the human body, and how to translate these experiences into her work. Her interests in women’s crafts, correlating historical artifacts and precious metals are often sub-engaged within her works, as she attempts to tie these numerous narratives together.
